Exopalaemon modestus (Heller, 1862) is a small caridean shrimps, commonly found in the inland lakes of Taiwan. It is also the only species of the genus lives entirely in fresh water. Under laboratory conditions and water temperature of 27-29℃,its eggs hatched out in 20 days. The larvae were fed with Artemia nauplii and they metamorphosed into the reptant postlarvae after passing through two zoeal stages. The morphological characteristics of the different larval stages are described with illustrations. The results of the present studies are also compared with these reported for the material of Nak-dong river from Korea.
