This paper attempts to synthesize research on ralated issues of women and work, and propose future research orientations. These proposed research orientations includes: (1) to view women as a minority group, (2) to assess women's status in the larger society by using a micro level of analysis of their quality of work-life, and (3) to accomplish all above by collecting qualitative data. We believe by using micro level analysis of job nature, researchers can strategically tap the subtle aspects of women's status by collecting data in their perception of work and other related areas of life, such as family and work coordination. Several major and minor sections are contained in this paper. They are a review of literature on (1) women as a minority group (a. sex stratification; b. sex segregation; c. sex ratio; and d. discrimination); (2) job nature (a. a sociology of work and occupation; b. anthropological study of the division of labor by sex; c. home/work coordination); (3) role theory; (4) the impact of work on women and men; and (5) conclusion.
