This study (1) analyzes current industrial and export situation and lumber use in Taiwan's wooden furniture Industry, and (2) determines the important attributes affecting lumber purchases by lumber importers. The number of wooden furniture manufacturers surveyed wan 322, 82% of which had less than 85 employees. Total lumber used in the industry was estimated to be 8.32 million m^3 in 1994. The following attributes were perceived by the importers to most influence their purchasing decisions: supply stability, lumber price and lumber quality.
