Sustainable development is globally recognized as a common consensus, but also supported internationally and nationally as a major goal targeted by the countries. It is the domestic challenges, however local level relating to delivering sustainable development has been seeing as the most important role. Joining-up government and cross-sectoral approach are adopted as the main spirit of the strategies and mechanisms of delivering sustainable development in the UK. The strategies of environmental protection, ecology, social equity and community wellbeing all are showed appreciation of the requirement for UK sustainable development. The paper aims to understand how sustainable development has been delivering and getting result at local level of the UK by exploring current government strategies, mechanisms and implementations. In conclusion, the paper suggests that the way of clear basic institutional structure, joining-up government and cross-sectoral approach, partnership, the third-sector involvement, developing related plans and reports, providing necessary supporting measures, developing respect and humanism are worth learning by the local level delivering sustainable development.
