This study aimed to investigate the professional competence university extension staff should have in Taichung City. Based on literature review, the author had designed a “Professional competence for university extension staff in Taichung city” questionnaire as the research instrument. The participants were university extension staff and students. T-tests and One-way ANOVA were applied to analyze the data. The results were as follow: The participants’ cognition level towards professional competence was at upper middle. Among the five aspects, the particients had the highest cognition level with service quality;different gender, status, and type of school showed significant differences at cognition level towards professional competence;different position staff showed a significant difference at cognition level towards professional competence.
